The Czech Republic lies at the heart of Central Europe and at its centre is the beautiful and historic city of Prague.
Prague, “the mother of cities”, “the city of a hundred spires,” is the capital and largest conurbation of the Czech Republic and widely considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It lies on either side of the Vltava River in the middle of Bohemia that is one of the three historic Czech territories; the others being Moravia and Silesia. The city has seven "Chapter Divisions" or districts. The city is home to more than 1.2 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 1.9 million.
Prague is among the most visited cities on the continent. Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. According to the Guiness World Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world.
