Prague city areas
Prague is divided into 10 old districts made up of a total of 22 numbered administrative districts which at turn comprise no less than 57 municipal districts.
Interest areas
- Old Town
Features: This is the original place of settlement of Prague and its main highlights are the Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock.
- New Town
Features: It is best known for its magnificent gothic and baroque churches, but the main landmark is Wenceslas Square. It also has the New Town Hall.
- Lesser Quarter
Features: It is one of Prague’s historical and oldest boroughs and its highlights are the Church of Our Lady Victorious and St Nicholaus church.
- Josefov (Jewish quarter)
Features: Surrounded by the Old Town, this quarter has as historical sites Frank Kafka’s birthplace, a 16th century synagogue, the Jewish Town Hall and the Old Jewish Cemetery.
- Anděl
Features: It is an important traffic center, partly a pedestrian zone. It has many offices of national and international companies and one of Prague’s biggest shopping malls, Nový Smíchov.
Administrative areas
- Prague 1 includes most of the medieval heart of the city.
- Prague 2 includes all of Vyšehrad and parts of Vinohrady, New Town and Nusle.
- Prague 3 includes most of the cadastral area of Žižkov and parts of Vinohrady, Vysočany and Strašnice.
- Prague 4 is the biggest municipality in Prague and most of this district consists of large estates of panelaks.
- Prague 5 is located at the left side of the Vltava River and it is mainly comprised of Smíchov, Radlice, Košíře, Barrandov, Zlíchov, Zličín and Jinonice.
- Prague 6 contains several sites and cultural institutions, as well as the biggest airport in the Czech Republic.
- Prague 7 includes Troja and has mostly Czech residents.
- Prague 8 used to be home for the working class and there are some factories still.
- Prague 9 has mainly residential areas and some industrial areas as well.
- Prague 10 combines residences with green areas.
